How often do you see a middle-aged couple where the woman is clearly making an effort to remain attractive while the man has seemingly given up on his physical appearance? It doesn’t feel fair, but at least trends have started to shift. Men are currently the largest growing patient base for cosmetic surgery. In 2022, about 1.5 million American men had plastic surgery, while a similar number sought a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure.

In the new episode of their podcast, The Doc Dudes discuss some of the procedures that are most popular with their male patients.

Body Is the Top Concern for Men

Two of the most popular procedures our plastic surgeons offer to male patients are gynecomastia surgery and liposuction. Gynecomastia, or male breast reduction, removes excess tissue around the chest to create a more masculine shape.

Men tend to store most of their fat around their abdomen, creating a “spare tire.” While liposuction is not a weight loss surgery, it is a successful way to recontour a man’s midsection that has stubborn fat. Because male fat is more fibrous, Graper Harper Cosmetic Surgery invested in VASER liposuction equipment to better serve their growing male patient base. However, the GHCS surgeons warn against the latest trend in “etching” muscles by shaping fat since it often leaves patients looking disfigured in the long term.

Skincare/Face

All the surgeons share that they use Botox to minimize lines on the upper face and appear more youthful. While other minimally invasive procedures like microneedling can help to counter signs of aging on the face, daily maintenance (like sunscreen and moisturizer) is better than occasional cosmetic treatments for the health and appearance of a man’s skin. The practice offers products that are highly effective and can be easily implemented into a man’s wellness routine without a lot of fuss.

When it comes to facial surgery, men tend to be most interested in blepharoplasty to rejuvenate the area around the eyes. Brow lift is much less popular with men since elevating the eyebrows can unintentionally “feminize” the face. However, they do see many men for rhinoplasty, chin augmentation and neck lift to improve the proportions of their face.
