Some of the Skincare Topics Our Experts Discuss

How are medical-grade skincare products different from over-the-counter products?

Over-the-counter products do not require a prescription. They are regulated by the FDA and are deemed safe for people to use if they follow the instructions on the packaging.

Surprisingly, medical-grade skincare products are not examined by the FDA. However, that should not imply that these products are less robust than over-the-counter products. Trusted brands like Revision conduct years of studies and trials to create precise blends that maximize efficacy and safety so that patients can enjoy amazing skincare results.

Should patients use medical-grade sunscreen?

First and foremost, sunscreen is critical for protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Wearing any form of sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or greater is better than not wearing sunscreen when outdoors. By and large, the ingredients in medical-grade sunscreen can better nourish and protect your skin, but the price point is understandably higher. Dr. Zahr points out that it can be economical to use the medical-grade sunscreen for daily application on your face, while using a generic brand for a day at the beach (reapplying frequently).

What’s new in skincare?

Revision Skincare® recently launched a product that should be of particular interest to patients who undergo non-surgical skin treatments at Graper Harper Cosmetic Surgery. The CMT Post-Procedure Cream™ is a “neurocosmetic,” which means it is formulated to better facilitate communication between the skin and the brain for less discomfort and downtime following laser, chemical peel, and microneedle treatments.
