Deciding when to undergo plastic surgery is a deeply personal choice, influenced by a variety of factors that range from physical readiness to psychological preparedness. The latest episode of The Doc Dudes podcast, “Your Time to Shine: When is the Right Time for Plastic Surgery?” dives into these considerations, offering valuable insights for anyone contemplating a cosmetic procedure.
When It Starts to Bother You
From a psychological perspective, the point when you’re compelled to make cosmetic changes is probably a good indication that you’re ready. So long as you are a good candidate for surgery with visible imperfections that can be reasonably addressed with surgery, The Doc Dudes usually feel good about performing surgery, regardless of your age. Many of their patients, particularly breast lift and breast reduction patients, express that they hadn’t waited so long to make the change.
When Delaying Makes Sense
It’s important to have a support system in place to make recovery easier. Good candidates for surgery should also be non-smokers who are near their goal weight. If a patient is experiencing a stressful time or needs to get healthier, it could make sense to wait on surgery. Pregnancy is another relevant factor. Women who plan to or might get pregnant in the coming years may want to put off surgeries like breast lift or tummy tuck — unless money is no object and they fully understand that pregnancy will alter their results.
Time of Year
While many consider cosmetic surgery a “winter activity,” surgeries can be performed year-round. Our surgeons may recommend that their breast and body patients choose a cooler month for surgery since that will make wearing a compression garment less uncomfortable during recovery. What matters most is working around your schedule and availability. For example, a teacher’s best time to undergo surgery is probably during the summer, regardless of the heat in Charlotte.
Consultation Is Key
Personalized consultations are the best way to answer your questions and determine whether you are ready for surgery. In some cases, you and your doctor may agree that it makes sense to pursue surgery at a later point, but at least you can set a plan in place rather than being unsure. The Doc Dudes conclude their podcast by inviting listeners to schedule a consultation to learn more about any cosmetic improvements you are contemplating.
