The MicroLaserPeel by Sciton consistently delivers remarkable results because it offers unsurpassed precision and can be customized to each patient’s individual skin enhancement needs.
MicroLaserPeel: The Procedure
The MicroLaserPeel involves the use of a leading-edge laser to remove a thin layer of damaged skin. The laser uses a computer-guided scanner to ensure maximum precision and even results. The laser can also be adjusted to remove just the right amount of the outermost layer of the skin to correct each patient’s unique skin problems. Depending on the treatment plan of each patient, as well as the level of invasiveness, the MicroLaserPeel may be performed under topical anesthesia, and treatment time generally lasts anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. MicroLaserPeel can be used to improve the skin on any area of the body, except under the eyes.
MicroLaserPeel is used to successfully treat the following skin conditions:
- Sun damage (freckles)
- Pigment irregularities
- Mild wrinkles
- Scars
- Keratosis
MicroLaserPeel Recovery
MicroLaserPeel recuperation time generally lasts about three to four days. Shortly following treatment, patients will notice a “frosty” skin appearance, which will continue to peel over the course of a few days, exposing new, healthy skin underneath. Most patients experience mild skin redness and swelling. During the recovery time, patients are advised to stay out of the sun and follow specific aftercare instructions. Depending on each patient’s aesthetic desires and skin-problem severity, some patients may wish to undergo more than one treatment session to achieve the best results.
MicroLaserPeel Treatment Results
The final results of the MicroLaserPeel become evident within a few days, after which time patients are able to return to work and other daily activities. Also known as the “weekend peel,” a MicroLaserPeel treatment provides patients with vibrant, more youthful-looking skin with improved texture and an even color in just a few days.

Frequently Asked Questions About MicroLaserPeel Treatment
It is an outer- to mid-epidermal laser peel that precisely removes a thin layer of skin to a selectable depth. MicroLaserPeel is an advanced clinical method used to improve skin texture, tone, and luminosity. It is easily customizable to each patient’s individual aesthetic goals. Because only a thin layer of the skin is removed, the recovery time tends to be very short.
The MicroLaserPeel procedure uses a laser wavelength that is preferentially absorbed in the water of the epidermis. The laser instantaneously heats the water to a high temperature, causing it to vaporize or ablate the skin. MicroLaserPeel precisely ablates skin anywhere from 4 to 50 microns deep (a micron is very small — for example, a fine human hair might be around 40 microns thick). Ablating the top layer of the epidermis removes old, tired-looking skin and, depending on depth, will remove some light blemishes such as sunspots and pigment irregularities. During the healing process new, healthy cells re-grow, thereby improving the overall appearance of the skin. MicroLaserPeel may be used alone or in conjunction with other procedures, such as Sciton’s ProFractional Therapy.
Many skin areas can be treated. Popular areas are the face, neck, chest, and hands. Dr. Graper will determine the best course of treatment for your specific needs and skin type.
Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses and Dr. Graper may administer an anesthetic, depending on the complexity of the treatment. The laser energy is delivered through a computer-controlled scanner that precisely positions the beam over the treatment area. You may hear snapping or popping sounds as the laser beam gently removes the outer layer of skin cells. The procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour or more, depending on the size of the treatment area.
The amount of discomfort varies from patient to patient and depends on the depth of treatment. Very light treatments are often tolerated with no anesthetic at all. Deeper treatments may require topical and/or local anesthetic. Dr. Graper and his staff will inform you of the different treatment options to manage any discomfort associated with the procedure.
Slight swelling may be present in the treated area; however, it usually subsides within a few hours to a day. Redness may persist for a few days, depending on the depth of the treatment, but should resolve fairly quickly. It is important that you avoid sun exposure, especially while your skin is healing. If you must go outdoors, it is recommended that you cover your treated skin, wear a hat, and use a sunblock of SPF 30 or higher. Dr. Graper will provide you with specific instructions for after-treatment care.
No! Dr. Graper will typically prescribe an occlusive ointment such as Aquaphor or Vaseline to keep your skin moist for one to five days, depending on the depth of the treatment. After that, a moisturizer can usually be used.
Your healing time will depend on factors such as treatment depth and post-treatment care. Healing time may also vary between individuals, but patients usually return to normal activities within a few days following treatment.
Results are clearly visible as soon as the skin heals. Most patients say that a MicroLaserPeel, even a light one, returns a healthy glow to their skin and that the texture is smooth. Often an immediate improvement in dyschromia (skin discoloration) and overall color homogeneity of the skin is achieved.
Generally, MicroLaserPeel carries very few risks, which is one of the reasons why it has become a preferred method of skin resurfacing for many. Dr. Graper and his staff will provide you with more information on the risks associated with any type of medical procedure, including MicroLaserPeel. One of the best ways to reduce the possibility of complications is to follow the after-treatment care instructions and follow-up schedule provided by Dr. Graper. Doing so will help reduce the possibility of infection and ensure proper healing.
