As you get older, you may discover that your metabolism is not as impressive as it used to be. Even if your diet and exercise has not changed significantly over the years, stubborn pockets of fat can begin clinging to new areas of your body. To reattain your former contours, you may consider liposuction.
With winter on the horizon, our team at Graper Harper Cosmetic Surgery assures our patients that now is a great time of year for cosmetic procedures like liposuction.
Winter Apparel
During your recovery, you can expect some swelling and bruising on the parts of your body where the surgeon performed liposuction. Luckily, these side effects clear up within about six weeks. In the meantime, you can easily cover these parts up with typical winter clothing. Whereas you might not be able to get away with coats, hoodies and loose sweatpants in warmer months, the winter is a great time to cover up without arousing suspicion.
Compression Garments
Another important consideration is the compression garment, which you must wear after your surgery to accelerate your recovery. Not only do compression garments make recovery a more comfortable experience, but they also help to hold the new contours achieved with liposuction and minimize the amount of bruising and swelling you experience.
In a hot climate, wearing a compression garment can be less comfortable since it leads to sweatiness. However, during the winter months, this is much less of a problem. You can also hide the compression garment more easily under winter clothing.
Winter Is More Sedentary
After liposuction, you need some time to rest and relax. Since more people stay indoors during the winter months, you have a built-in excuse to stay at home and give your body an opportunity to recover. You may also wish to take advantage of the various winter holidays (Christmas, Hannukah, New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day) so that you can time your recovery to avoid taking too many vacation days off from work.
Summer-Ready Body
When you picture your post-liposuction body, your goal is probably to show off your improved contours in the warmer months. Unfortunately, patients who wait until summer to try to achieve a summer body are usually behind schedule, especially if the treatment includes a surgical procedure. By planning ahead, your newly svelte belly, arms and/or thighs will be ready to put on display by the time swimsuit, short sleeve and shorts season rolls around.
